The Honda Civic has always been the leader in the small-car segment. Since its introduction over fifty years ago, the rest of the automotive world has been playing catch-up. While competitors sometimes sniff around the top, the Civic is always right there to push them back – and the 2025 Honda Civic is no different, bringing a whole new trick to the party: the Civic Hybrid.

Both the 2025 Honda Civic Sedan and Civic Hatchback start with a naturally-aspirated 150-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the base models. It’s paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive. This provides for a somewhat average fuel economy that ranges from 30 MPG city and 38 MPG highway to 32 MPG city and 41 MPG highway depending on body style or trim.

New for 2025, the hybrid system is available in the Sport trim and standard in the Sport Touring trim. It pairs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a high-torque traction motor. This provides 200 total system horsepower, feeding through an electronic CVT with deceleration selectors that can help recharge the onboard battery through regenerative braking. This provides snappy performance, while also getting anywhere from 45 MPG city and 50 MPG highway to 47 MPG city and 50 MPG highway depending on body style and trim.

Civic Si and Type R models are offered as well, with performance options carrying over from the previous year. The Civic Si features a turbocharged 1.5-liter unit churning out 200-horsepower, with a standard six-speed manual transmission. The Type R takes it a step further, with a 315-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that does 0-to-60 in under 5 seconds. Both get steering and braking upgrades for performance through twists and turns.

A handful of cosmetic changes have been added on top of the new engine, including new headlamps and a revised front bumper. It retains the same clean, sporty lines feature across the line-up, offering a mildly athletic look. Inside, the ergonomics make great use of the small footprint, with easy-to-clean, durable materials used across the interior. Rear-seat passengers get 37.4 inches of leg room, well above that of rivals from Mazda and Toyota. The maximum of 14.8 cubic feet of cargo space is also some of the best in the compact car segment. The hatchback increases carrying capacity, offering 24.5 cubic feet of cargo room. 

A 7-inch infotainment touchscreen audio system is standard, while a 9-inch touchscreen is offered on the hybrid sedan and the hatchback Sport Touring models. Both come with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration and Bluetooth Hands Free and Streaming Audio. While a four-speaker audio system is standard, buyers can opt for an available eight-speaker Honda or 12-speaker Bose premium audio systems. Two USB port is standard, with up to two more available, while Qi-compatible wireless charging, satellite radio, and HD radio are all optional. 

The Honda Sensing Driver Assistance Suite is standard across all Civic models, and it combines forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, Driver Attention Monitor, and Traffic Sign Recognition System into a full suite. Every Civic also comes with a rearview camera. The Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Monitor is optional, as is Low-Speed Braking Control and front and rear parking sensors.

Entry-level LX models are offered as sedan models only, sitting on 16-inch steel wheels. Durable cloth seating is used across the interior, and the 7-inch touch screen is standard with the four-speaker audio system. Power windows and door locks are standard, along with an automatic climate control system.

The Sport trim is available on the sedan or hatchback body style. It upgrades to 18-inch gloss black alloy wheels outside while adding a chrome exhaust finisher. Inside the sporty vibe is continued with sport pedals a leather-wrapped shift knob; the sedan gets a leather-wrapped steering wheel, although the hatchback doesn’t. The 180-watt, 8-speaker audio system is standard. while Smart Entry with Walk Away Auto Lock offers an added security measure.

Sport Hybrid trims don’t just drop the hybrid engine into the Sport trim. Available with both body styles, they receive a one-touch power moonroof with tilt feature outside. Inside, front seats are heated, and dual-zone automatic climate control provides variable comfort for the passenger and driver.

The Sport Touring trim tops the Civic line-up on both body styles. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are upgraded to wireless, and run through the 9-inch color touch-screen. This unit includes Alexa Built-In. SiriusXM, HD Radio, the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System, and the 12-speaker Bose Premium Sound System. The QI-compatible phone charger is also standard. Leather-trimmed heated seats include 8-way power adjustment for the driver and 4-way power adjustment for the front passenger; the hatchback also gets a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Aside from the performance upgrades, the Civic Si sits on matte black alloy 18-inch wheels. Dual chrome exhaust finishers and a gloss black decklid spoiler dress up the exterior. A 160-watt, 7-speaker audio system includes a subwoofer and runs through an 8-inch touch-screen. Sport front seats are heated and have manual adjustment, and Sport pedals, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a leather-trimmed aluminum shift knob all add sporty notes. The Bose premium sound system is standard, with 12 speakers that include a subwoofer.

An aggressive appearance package on the Type R includes an aluminum hood, a gloss black wing spoiler, gloss black side sills, a center-mounted triple outlet exhaust, and 19-inch matte black alloy wheels. Red Honda “H” badges and Type R badging feature prominently throughout. Inside, red ambient LED lighting, red floor mats, and red illuminated front door panels set the mood, while dual-zone automatic climate control provides comfort. High-bolstered sports seats, an aluminum shift knob and sport pedals are featured as well. The 9-inch color touch-screen controls the Bose Premium Sound System with 12 speakers, as well as the navigation system and HondaLink system.
